Delia Mahon Collection
Essays from the pen of school girl Delia Mahon
All Essays were written during the school years 1906-1908
The Delia Mahon Collection of Essays/Compositions came to light when Marty Mahon of Cappa, Woodford, who had valued and preserved these copy books over many years, showed them to Abbey Heritage and gave permission for their publication on the Abbey & District Heritage website.
Marty Mahon’s aunt, Delia Mahon, never had the opportunity to go on to Secondary School when she completed her Primary education. She spent her whole life in Cappa. It was while she was a student in the Convent National School, Woodford, that these compositions were written, most likely, as weekly/monthly homework exercises or indeed just for the sheer pleasure of writing!
We are delighted to bring these compositions to a wider readership and to reproduce them on our website.
A scanned copy of all the stories together with a transcript of each one to help the reader, is included. Just click on the link below to read the story of your choice.
We hope you enjoy reading these compositions as much as we appreciate this fantastic collection written 115 years ago during the 1906-1908 school years, by the young school girl Delia Mahon..
