Contributing to Galway's European Region of Gastronomy 2018 Award

Co Galway has been designated ‘European Region of Gastronomy 2018’ and is the first region in Ireland to receive this award.  Only two European Regions of Gastronomy 2018 have been awarded, one in Galway, Ireland and the second in the Netherlands.

The Heritage Office of Galway Co Council is working with local Heritage Groups and others to promote this award and to document our rich gastronomical heritage.

Abbey Heritage Group has been sourcing and recording stories of the area’s food heritage by way of its contribution to Galway’s collection.  Our local National School, St Feichin’s, is helping with the research and we have also invited other National Schools in our district to participate in the project.  We very much appreciate the response we have received and we acknowledge the contributions received.  All contributions from any of our readers – photographs, recipes or any food related stories will be most welcome.
