Letters to Fr Eugene from Grace Plunkett
26 Upper Fitzwilliam St.
Dublin
Friday
Dear Father Nevin
I am so sorry to have missed you – we were at the aonac all the week – but are always in on Sundays from 4 o’c on. If you come any other day – write a postcard to avoid trouble. The count’s address is 8 St John’s Road, OXFORD.
I hope you are well – I am doing the nine Fridays. I want to try and be a worthy member of the glorious religion I have had the luck to have found. Sometime if you have time say a wee prayer for me.
With best wishes for Christmas.
Yours sincerely
Grace Plunkett

Dear Fr Nevin
Isn’t this shocking, only writing to you now! and after all your goodness too. This letter also must only be a scrawl – and with a base motive! I want you to write me a testimonial. There is to be an arbitration to settle the affairs of the children – and the other side is making allegations of an unspeakably vile character against me – as a catholic and as to my moral character.
Fr Joseph has heard them and is entirely on our side as he will tell you. So like the angel you are – would you write by return a letter saying that I lived in your parish for some time and what you know about me.
I’m delighted to hear that things aren’t as bad as we thought for you. God send you home soon.
Grace Plunkett
Arbitration is to be on Friday 23rd Nov. Writing soon.
