Hello,
My name is Thomas Madden, and we visited the family farm in July of 1969. My grandmother was Agnes Abberton (Madden), related to the late Reverend Patrick Abberton. My mother, Barbara, married Joseph Madden, my father, who was Agnes Abberton’s son.
During our trip, we were in touch with Terry Abberton. We also had correspondence with Kathleen Abberton (Lynch), of Abbey Loughrea, County Galway. We also connected with Mr. & Mrs. Moclair, not sure how or if they are related to the Abberton’s.
We will be traveling to Ireland in July, 2024 and are hoping to reconnect with family. Any information regarding the Abberton’s would be appreciated. madden.t@comcast.net
Pierce, your grandmother Kathleen was a sister of Frank and Jack Abberton who lived beside the church. The lovely photo above is of the Abberton family, Lower Abbey. Delighted to see that you have not forgotten the home village of your dad Bernie!
Hi Valma, my grandmother was Kathleen Abberton. I guess she is top center in the picture above. Thanks for posting. I remember Algie and Eva from visits to Abbey. My grandmother Kathleen, married Tom Lynch and lived gust across the road in Abbey.
Bridget Davis nee Abberton my GG Grandmother Born 1845 parents Marie Shiel,& Michael Abberton is who I’m searching for she had a brother Francis b.1834 and Patrick b.1838 and the name Cornelius Abberton who was Bridget Shiel sponser I believe has come up in our research. Is it possible that someone in this community has him in their family. Also the name Moran possibly.
When we were in Abbey in 2003 we visited Abbertons and the elderly couple were very friendly, asked us in for tea, his name was Algie and his wife Eva. We had an hour with them, but they couldn’t connect us to any family belonging to us, we went to Woodford Family History but nothing was any help unfortunately.
