Nanny’s Brown Bread


  • 350g Odlums Wholemeal Flour
  • 125g Odlums Plain Flour
  • 1 teaspoon of Bread Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Salt
  • 275ml of Buttermilk


Sieve the flour, salt and bread soda into a bowl.  Mix in the wholemeal flour.  Add enough milk to make a soft dough.  Turn our onto a floured board.  Knead until the mixture comes together.  Place on a floured baking sheet.  Put a cross on the top.  Put into a pre-heated oven at 200oC for about forty minutes. The bread will have a hollow sound when baked.  Enjoy with jam and butter!
