The notice below to Farmers appeared in the Connacht Tribune in March 1915 setting out the dates for Fairs in the year ahead. It states that “Abbey is situated in the centre of the best sheep and cattle rearing districts in the county, and is very convenient to Portumna and Loughrea, being 5 miles from the former and 8 from the latter. For any information apply to J Holihan, J J Hanrahan Secretaries Fairs Committee”.
