The UK and Ireland - July 2022

The Community Archives and Heritage conference is an annual celebration of the richness and diversity of community archives and heritage throughout the UK and Ireland.  Although usually held in London in the UK, the 2022 conference was held in the National University of Ireland Galway campus, Ireland for the first time.  It was co-hosted by the Irish Community Archive Network (iCAN), the National Museum of Ireland, Galway County Council and the Hardiman Library NUI Galway and took place over three days in July 2022.

The theme for the 2022 conference was ‘Meitheal’ an Irish word that depicts working and cooperating together as was the traditional system with farming in Ireland where neighbouring farmers came together to help each other with various aspects of farming work.  There was a definite ‘Meitheal’ spirit throughout the conference with interesting talks and question and answer sessions, together with Film and discussions at the various heritage group stands that were on display throughout the conference..

Abbey Heritage was delighted to be represented at the conference and to display and discuss many of the documents and artefacts they have collected and which were warmly acknowledged by all who visited the Abbey stand.
