Memories of Abbey’s Past

When working on the ‘Mapping of Heritage sites in Abbey’ project in 2023, we considered it important to make reference to what the business or commercial life in the village was like in times gone by.  Sadly, many of the people who were involved in the past are no longer with us and so like many other situations, their stories from the past are lost to the present and future generations.

However we did succeed in getting John Holohan, one of the older generation, Padraig Lynch son of Des and Teresa Hynes daughter of Edmund and Nora to share their memories of growing up in the three shops that were part of the village in former years.
