This lovely story from Abbey’s past is another example of the stories collected for Heritage Week 2022 and which can be accessed and listened to by visitors to our village using the QR Code system.

The video recording is courtesy of StoryTracks and the true story is narrated by John Holohan who was the young boy who rode his tricycle into the kitchen of Katie Callanan, the dressmaker.

Animation of ‘The Dressmaker’ Story

In 2022, The National Museum of Ireland in conjunction with the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Galway, invited iCAN members to collaborate with students attending ATU and studying for an Arts Degree in Animation and Game Design.  Heritage groups were invited to submit stories from the past that could be used by students to create a short, animated film as part of their final year projects.  Students would choose from the proposals submitted.

Abbey Heritage submitted the Dressmaker true story for consideration, and it was accepted by the university students.  The final animation show below, was received in June 2023 and will be shown at an International Animated Film Festival in Stuttgart, in April 2024.
