Abbey Community Development Association chose the 20th February 2020 as an appropriate date to plant an Oak Tree in the village green to honour a very special lady. Mrs Nora Hynes, who is the oldest resident of the village has spent most of her lifetime, covering more than nine decades, in Abbey and it is wonderful that she is still with us to welcome yet another decade. Nora, the retired post mistress, has served the communities of Abbey and surrounding areas over several of these decades and despite advancing years, she is still hail and hearty and interested in everything that is happening.
Nora felt very privileged to have a tree planted in her honour and despite the most inclement weather on the chosen day she was most anxious to attend the planting ceremony. The whole community wishes her continued good health and many more years to enjoy the fruits of her lifetime of service.
