Remembering Our Beloved Fr Abe Kennedy
Parish Priest of Abbey-Duniry
Frances Holohan
The untimely and sudden death in 2019 of our much loved Parish Priest, Fr Abe Kennedy, following a short illness, left the entire community shocked and saddened. Young and old were loved and touched by Fr Abe during his short seven years as PP and the influence he had for good on so many can never be fully appreciated.
His natural, fun-loving and caring approach were the hall marks of this special person who was also so compassionate and non-judgmental. His love of people irrespective of age, position or situation was evident and in so many ways was just a reflection of the great love of God for everyone, which he endeavoured to exemplify in his own life and example.
The out-pouring of grief and tributes at his funeral Mass were a small acknowledgment of the esteem in which Abe was held by all those who knew and loved him. People lined the roads to salute this special person as he made his final journey from Duniry Church via Abbey Village to his place of rest in Fethard in his native county Tipperary.
No doubt he will continue to keep in touch with his parish of Abbey-Duniry from his eternal home as he enjoys the rewards of his labours. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
