The Land of the Sun
THE LAND OF THE SUN
People speaking of Italy sometimes call it the land of the sun, of music, poetry and painting. It is also the land of beauty and charm. It is in this fair spot that some men of great fame have been taufht their first and noblest lessons. Some of them in after life having the honour of being artists, poets and painters.
It is bounded on the North by the Alps, the highest mountains in the continent of Europe and the Apennines run almost through its centre. Crops of corn, wines and olives are cultivated and cover large tracts of land – it looks like one great garden.
Rome is the capital of Italy. It was once the chief city of the world but in later years London became capital in its stead.
