Thomas Moore

 

THOMAS MOORE

Of all our Irish poets few attained as much fame as Thomas Moore.

He was born in Dublin in the year 1779 and before he was twenty years of age went to England to study law.  From that time England was has home, he visited the houses of the great, they welcomed him and he repaid their kindness by his sweet songs and brilliant conversation.

All his life time he faithfully loved his native country, her hopes and misfortunes were the principal subject of his songs.

He died in the year 1852.  For some time before his death his mind lost all its strength.  But he employed his time by singing songs of Ireland.
